Progreso city manager busted on another DWI chargeMay 18, 2012
Alfredo Espinosa stood quietly in handcuffs in front of a judge at the Mercedes City Jail on Friday afternoon. He was taken into custody by Mercedes police at around 2am on Friday morning. Officers say they witnessed the Progreso City Manager swerving wildly on the road, so they pulled him over for a traffic stop. "He had slurred speech, had the smell of alcohol on his breath, and refused to take a breathalyzer test" says Investigator Ernie Gonzalez. However, this drinking and driving charge is not this city leader's first rodeo. Police confirm with Action 4 News that Espinosa had been arrested for DWI four times, but was only convicted once in 2006. This is now his second conviction. Espinosa was immediately transported to Cameron County Correctional Center after the arraignment on Friday afternoon. His bond was posted at $5000. No word yet on the status of his position as Progreso City Manager.

Airborne News Bulletin: FAA Administrator, Randy Babbitt, Placed On Leave After DWIMay 04, 2012
Babbitt Asked For Leave After Informing Administration Monday This was not a good weekend for FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt. Late Saturday night, the FAA Boss was observed driving in the wrong lane in Fairfax City, VA, a mistake that appears to be a costly one as the FAA leader has now been placed on leave after being charged with driving DWI. No accident took place and Babbitt was alone at the time of his arrest. Babbitt, one of the most positively received FAA Admins in recent memory, was released on his personal recognizance after being taken to the local jail and ANN has learned (via the AP) that he has been placed on leave from the FAA. Babbitt, 65, was sworn in as the FAA's 16th administrator on June 1, 2009, and has been highly regarded in aviation circles for his comprehensive knowledge of virtually facets of aviation and a background that has spanned quite a lot of aviation activity... everything from having worked as a CFI to being a Captain for Eastern Airlines, and a past president of the Airline Pilot's Association.. The effect that this may have on Babbitt's future with the FAA is hard to discern at the moment but industry insiders suggest that such a matter, if corroborated by solid evidence, may be cause for the Administration to ask for his resignation. Martin Heidgen became the first drunken driver to be found guilty of murder in Nassau County when he slammed into a limousine, killing the driver, Stanley Rabinowitz, and 7-year-old Katie Flynn. The Flynn family had been heading home from a wedding where the young girl was the flower girl. Nassau District Attorney Kathleen Rice said, "There's no question he knew the danger he was putting other people in by driving the wrong way for two and a half miles." Heidgen and his attorney, Jillian Harrington, have argued that he should face the lesser charge of manslaughter. Harrington said she plans to appeal the decision again.
